December’s conflict is no longer a conflict. First it’s no longer December, and second I was able to get all of our files back up. For those who have no idea what December’s conflict is, I’ve posted a small update on the information page. So basically in December our database became corrupted, luckily I had back up files (articles, images, php and our css files) So I was able to get everything back up, however I attempted switching our backend to a cms that way I was hoping to be able to not have two different databases just to run our site. Yet the new cms was a failure and when I attempted to switch back to the current backend we had an epic failure. Of course it would figure that even though nothing was done to corrupt the database and the only thing that was done was basically add the files back to the server(similar to an upgrade) so here I sat with no articles and no pages. Yet I was able to access the articles for only one time and was able to get plain text copies of it all, but to make it worse my laptop would crash and it would be a week until I had my operating system upgraded and had all my programs reinstalled.

Allow me to say, I’m sorry for taking so long to get everything back up, but now that we are back online I can start getting things moving again. I’ve just spent some time and hardened our backend a bit Yay for protection…

So sad that it should come to this…. So for those who haven’t heard, PixelSurgeon had been killed. PixelSurgeon was an online design and culture magazine featuring news, reviews and interviews. I’ve visited PixelSurgeon over the years and while it wasn’t a site which I remembered by heart; most likely because I probably found it while I was busy at school; I do remember that I respected how clean their layout was and their community.

"After seven amazing years, Pixelsurgeon is shutting its doors and closing down. Pixelsurgeon is an enormous time drain and thanks to an expanding family and helping to create new moving image company Wyld Stallyons, I simply cannot devote sufficient time to it. So rather than let it die a slow lingering death, I’m taking it to the canal in a bag of rocks. This has been a tough decision, and one I’ve struggled with over the last couple of months. I’m sure many of you will be as heartbroken as we are. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our contributors past and present for their amazing work, and to you, our audience for stopping by to read our news, reviews and interviews. Keep on truckin’!" - Jason Arber 11-19-2007

Seven years; something about it just makes you stop and go - "wow…" I mean in this day and age; web sites come and go; and as for design portals, now a days they are a dying breed - Remember when design portals were the standard? This makes another design portal to go on the chalk board of design portal’s that are now gone. In a way, I wondered why Jason didn’t just choose someone else to run the portal? - I somewhat can understand that when a person leaves such a project that sometimes the user base feels that it just isn’t the same; I can’t blame Jason for ending it - He did a very important thing not letting it linger. So if there are any design portals that you wish to give respect, feel free to do so.
